He loved her, and sometimes he was sure that she loved him back. He wouldn’t allow himself to let his guard down and be with Hawke because he didn’t feel like he was enough for her. She was a hero, and he didn’t want to fall in love with her, only to have her move on to someone else who was better than him. This was why he always shrugged off her flirting. This is also why he eventually left her after the fall of the Chantry. He didn’t think following her around, and always wondering “what could have been” was very healthy. He still misses her, and he always will.

“When Mage Hawke was a child, the first thing she ever managed to do correctly was use Nature magic to make a flower grow. It was small and simple, but meant so much to her as an accomplishment. It had five petals. She kept one, and each member of her family carries it in a locket they always keep on their person. Carver always wears his under his clothing because he is secretly very proud of his sisters.”

Since it’s a little hard to read unless you full-size it: “If my f!Hawke and Fenris ever had kids I would see one of the children being a mage to which Fenris would completely take a new turn on how he feels about them being thrown into the chantry and refuses to let his child be taken from him.”
